Contractor License Verification
Cross-check every contractor against state licensing boards. Active license status, license type, expiration dates, and disciplinary history.
Every contractor verified against state boards
Contractor license verification is the foundation of every TradeBridge data product. We check every record against the issuing state's contractor licensing board to confirm the license is active, current, and in good standing.
This matters because generic B2B databases have no mechanism for license verification. Apollo can tell you a company exists. It can't tell you if the contractor's license expired last month, if they have a disciplinary action on record, or if the license classification matches the trade they claim to practice.
What we verify
For each contractor, we confirm:
- License status: Active, inactive, expired, suspended, or revoked
- License classification: The specific trade(s) the license covers
- License number: Cross-referenced against the state board
- Business association: The company linked to the license
When available, we also capture license expiration dates, bond status, and insurance requirements. Coverage varies by state, as each state board publishes different data fields.
State board coverage
We maintain data pipelines for contractor licensing boards in all 50 states and DC. Some states operate centralized contractor licensing (California CSLB is the gold standard). Others license by trade at the state or county level. We've built reliable sourcing for every jurisdiction.
License data freshness depends on the state board's update schedule. States with real-time online databases give us current-day data. States that update monthly or quarterly have a wider window. We time our pulls to minimize staleness.
Why this matters for your outreach
Sending sales emails to an expired or suspended contractor is a waste. Worse, it signals to the contractor that you don't understand their industry. License verification ensures your outreach reaches active, qualified contractors who can actually do business.
